TBT: Buck Hill's Mountain Coaster

Did you know that Buck Hill was once the home to a mountain coaster? The coaster was installed in 1979 at a reported cost of $100,000. The mountain coaster was dedicated by the Governor of Minnesota Al Quie, who also rode it as part of the opening. The coaster was part of several summer activities added to the resort that off-season to boost revenue during the warmer months.

The coaster stretched over 1600 feet down Buck Hill and set riders back $2.00 per ride or $8.00 for six rides. The coaster only lasted a few seasons as revenue from the ride hit the brakes and was scrapped only a few short years after its inception.

Did any of you get the chance to ride Buck’s mountain coaster?
